Of Virtue and Loyalty is triumphant overture for Wind Ensemble. This piece was commissioned by Dr. Mark Whitlock in memory of John Hussey, a founding member of the Twin Ports Wind Orchestra and a beloved part of the musical community in Duluth, Minnesota. John was a man of great character, an adventuresome man with a deep sense of humor and most of all, a loyal friend. I hoped to pay tribute to those qualities in this piece. In honor of his tenure Principal Trombonist, I chose to represent him with the Trombone section, who open the piece with a resounding fanfare and herald many of the prominent melodies throughout.
